About this CARVING

Allen's Hummingbird

The Allen Hummingbird lives along the west coast of North America. Know for it’s ability to hover over a flower, it is impossible to see it’s wings. So with the help of high speed photography I capture what the naked eye can’t see.The oldest recorded Allen's Hummingbird was 5 years 11 months when she was captured and rereleased in California during banding operations.

Their diet consist of flower nectar, small insects, and tree sap. Allen's hummingbird has a more limited range, nesting mostly in California however can be found from Arizona to Louisiana.

This carving is made of three pieces of tupelo. The flower is thin hammered copper and solder to create a flower with a stem. The base consists of various rocks mounted on pine base with a vintage look. This sculpture took 65 hours to complete is a one of kind original. Finished in April 2017.
