About this CARVING

Merganser Drake

These ducks live mainly on freshwater rivers and lakes. They are rare in the ocean, but they sometimes use saltwater estuaries in winter. They nest in tree cavities in northern forests near rivers and lakes. Their food consist of mostly fish, but they also eat aquatic invertebrates (including insects, mollusks, crustaceans, and worms), frogs, small mammals, birds, and plants.

This Drake is carved out of two pieces of Tupelo. The head has an iridescence green with a feathered crown. A great conversation piece. This was created in December 2016 and took 39 hours to complete.
